Name: Lindsay Berra

Age:
32

Profession:
Senior writer, ESPN The Magazine.

Fitness goals: Berra used to be an avid runner but had hip surgery two years ago and can’t run as much anymore. “Now I’m a triathlete, and I’ve started cycling and swimming to supplement my running,” she says. “I did my first triathlon over the summer. I want to break two and a half hours in the Olympic distance triathlon.”
Workout of choice: Spinning—riding an exercise bike in a class.

Location: 3Sixty Cycling Studio in Montclair (3sixtycyclingstudio.com).

Frequency/cost: “I work out six days a week, either once or twice a day. I usually cycle at least three days a week; on the other days I swim, run, or do yoga.” Berra does either a 60- or 75-minute class at the cycling studio, depending on the instructor. The cost is $17, or twenty classes for $240.

How’s it going? Berra, a sports enthusiast who played ice hockey on a boys’ varsity team as a kid and comes from a family of professional athletes, joined 3Sixty Cycling Studio about a year and a half ago when she followed one of the instructors to the facility, which is part-owned by cosmetics entrepreneur Bobbi Brown.

"Spinning is a great cardio workout because in a spin class you can’t stop pedaling, compared to riding a bike outside. I like that the cycling studio is convenient and close. If I get up and it’s raining outside or cold, or I don’t have time to ride outside, I can just go there instead.” Berra says working out at 3Sixty “is making my legs stronger, which will help me reduce my triathlon time.” She loves the instructors’ music and describes the loft-like atmosphere as cool. The interior of the building has exposed brick and cinder block; the studio also features a pool table, a fireplace, and flat-screen TV.
