Staying Overnight: Pine Barrens Camping

Atsion: At Atsion Lake, 50 state-run tent and trailer sites are available with fire rings and picnic tables. Potable water, flush toilets, and showers are within walking distance. Call ahead for campfire regulations. Campsites are open from April 1 through December 15 at $20 per night. Also available along the lake are nine furnished cabins of various sizes with screened porches, fireplaces, refrigerators, hot and cold running water, and bathrooms with toilets and showers. The state-run cabins are open from April 1 through October 31. Rates vary.

Primitive Campsites: Several of the trips outlined here offer the option of primitive tent camping. This means you bring the food, the fire, and (in some cases) the water. At the Mullica River Camp, potable water is provided by hand pump, and pit toilets are on site. The Lower Forge Camp has no water, so bring plenty of it. Neither site is accessible by vehicle, so you’re sure to have plenty of solitude during your stay. Maximum campsite capacities vary from 50 to 250 people at $2 per person per night.
