We asked wellness expert Dr. Lorraine Maita of Short Hills to share super-easy tips for looking and feeling younger in the New Year. Maintaining good health might be easier than you think.

No-cost wellness:

• Get moving! Walk, dance, play sports.

• Soak up 15 minutes of sunshine to lift your mood and produce Vitamin D.

• Sleep 6 to 8 hours to boost growth hormones that keep you slim and strong.

• Relax and meditate. Downtime inspires us to reinvent ourselves and lowers the stress hormone cortisol that makes us fat, flabby and forgetful.

• Eat unprocessed food: fresh or frozen vegetables; wild-caught fish; free-range, grass-fed meat and poultry.

• Set boundaries and let go of obligations that don’t serve you. Do only what’s necessary to bring joy and attain life goals.

The skinny on vitamins:

• Since more than 50 percent of Americans are deficient in one or more vitamins or minerals, everyone should take a multivitamin mineral formula, as well as fish oil and vitamin D.

You’re better without it:

• For some people, eggs, yogurt and milk can cause inflammation, fatigue, joint aches, mucous production, weight gain, gas, bloating and skin breakouts. Most yogurts are loaded with sugar and don’t have sufficient amounts of probiotics to make a big difference.

• Most ketchups and mustards contain high-fructose corn syrup and gluten, so make your own or look for smart alternatives.

• Fat-free products are often thickened with sweeteners and gluten. Some fat is actually essential for good health, so choose fat-free foods carefully.
